LABANOTATION #31

Berlin, 2007

Labanotation: a system for recording movement.

Irene Fortuyn turned the forecourt of the Dutch embassy in Berlin into a social place with stones to sit on. The starting point is a grid of 5 x 6 stones. Through a system that works like a five-sided die, whereby the number of pips on the roll determines the movement of the stone, each checker can move from its starting point to another point on the grid. This creates random groups of stones.

Labanotations one through thirty are the result of the application of the system in Amsterdam.

Labanotation #31
In order to exclude preference for an outcome and to allow the choreography of the stones only to be determined by chance, it was decide to create #31 on the spot, in Berlin.
