De Wolden, 2011

The Inconceivable is a national monument in memory of the victims of senseless violence and to support the next of kin, located in the village of De Wolden in Drenthe. The monument was unveiled during the National Day Commemorating Victims of Violence in 2011.

The Inconceivable is at once a wall of wailing, a wall of consolation and a wall of reflection. It is a soft wall that embraces you with its many graceful curls. Yet it is also a hard wall, hard to stop the violence. The monument has niches for flowers, letters or photos and benches where victims can be commemorated in silence.
