Dierdonk Helmond
Helmond, 1995
Dierdonk is a newly-built neighborhood on the northeast side of the city of Helmond that was built according to the principle of the garden cities from the 1930s. The layout is spacious and green and the brick houses have front and back gardens. A competition amongst architects, landscape architects and artists was held for the design of the center of the district.
In collaboration with Claus & Kaan and Michael van Gessel, Irene Fortuyn developed the prize-winning design for the new center based on the area’s history as a swamp.
